The head designer for Tilander Golf Design is golf course architect Lassi Pekka Tilander. With more than 35 years of golf experience under his belt, Lassi Pekka is a former amateur National Team member for Finland and has been a PGA member as a teaching professional since 1991. Clearly, he understands the essence of the game on all levels.
In his other professional career, Lassi Pekka has constantly worked with all things visual. He has over 15 years of work experience as an art director for an advertising agency. While completing the diploma program in graphic design at the Institute of Design, Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Lassi Pekka learned not only to use computers to accelerate the design process, but to also use them artistically. Furthermore, the scale and geometry of a golf course have become second nature to him from making golf course guides for numerous courses in Finland.
Lassi Pekka Tilander is also a respected golf photographer. The archives at Tilander Golf Design have thousands of high-quality pictures from numerous golf courses in Finland from the 1980's to the present day.
The first golf course design project for Lassi Pekka was the completion of the fourth 9-hole loop for Golf Talma in the year 2000. Presently, his finished projects include 11 golf courses spanning three countries. In addition, he has completed many renovations and redesigns for respected and well-established clubs in Finland. These include Espoo Golf Club, Tawast Golf, Messilä Golf and Golf Talma.
Lassi Pekka Tilander was the first golf course architect in Finland to be accepted as a full member by the European Institute of Golf Course Architects. He received his Professional Diploma in Golf Course Design in 2005 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
As a designer, Lassi Pekka takes pride in designing courses that are technically sound and beautiful to the eye. As a player, he makes sure that the course is interesting and challenging to play. And as someone who has taught the game to beginners and average golfers, he knows that although not all will become champions, everyone must be given the chance to enjoy the game.
