Philosophy

Tilander Golf Design is dedicated to producing technically advanced designs for golf courses that are challenging and aesthetic.

A golf course is always unique and the design is dependent on many factors. These include the size and character of the land, the number of the holes to be built, the possible buildings on the site, the scope of the practice areas, etc.

Tilander Golf Design creates courses that do not compromise golf's noble principles, but are still fun and enjoyable to play. Players of all skill levels need to be challenged without being humiliated.

The design of a new course needs to pay attention to the essence of local nature and to use it creatively. It is no longer enough that the routing flows, the grass is well maintained, and the strategic elements are made apparent. The good course is also needs contrasts. Colours, shapes and diverse flora give a course the kind of character that will endure.

The time needed from the first thought to a completed golf course is at least several years. Therefore, the client as well as the designer need patience and trust. And all involved need the ability to make changes along the way.

Modern golf design and construction is teamwork at its best. Tilander Golf Design works with the most knowledgeable golf course construction people. Their skill and competence combined with quality strategic and creative design produces courses that give golfers rich and everlasting memories. In northern climates drainage specifically needs constant attention. Tilander Golf Design draws a separate shaping plan including surface drainage for each hole and green.

Although all plans by Tilander Golf Design are detailed and accurate, a course can never be completely designed inside an office. Each golf course is work of art that the designer needs to supervise during construction. A guiding principle for Tilander Golf Design is to consistent supervision the construction from the first cleared tree till opening day.
