Nokia River Golf expansion plans under work

Nokia River Golf and Tilander Golf Design have come to agreement regarding design plans for course expansion. The course, which opened in 1989, is situated approximately 25 kilometres west of central Tampere (Finland) and 10 kilometres from Nokia. The course has been expanded once before to its current 18+9 hole configuration from the original 18-hole layout.

The new 50-hectare area is located to the west of the current River Course hole no. 2, bordered by the Taivalkunta Road on the north end and a rocky outcropping on the west. The terrain in this open area is excellent and will result in many incomparable views from multiple holes overlooking the traditional rural landscapes of this Pirkanmaa region.

Usable surface area measures about 30-hectares, which means that 9-12 new holes can be situated there. The design does not rule out changes to existing holes. The main objective is to provide the most functional golf centre for all Nokia River Golf shareholders, members and guest players.  The completed golf centre will consist of one main course, whose distance, scale and strategic elements will challenge even top players. In addition, there will be two full-length 9-hole courses and possibly a separate par-3 course. Finally, the design also includes upgrades to the practice areas.

The design work beginning now will include a Master Plan for all of the areas governed by Nokia River Golf and will be finished by the beginning of summer 2012.  Decisions regarding a construction timetable will be made at a later date.
